after, behind, inferiority; according to, concerning; un-
interrupted, intensity, repetition, distribution, Abh 1174

satthe, 6) sādisse, 6) hīne, 7) tatiyatthe, 8) lakkhaṇe,
β) itthambhūtakkhāne, 10) bhāge, ") vīcchāyaṁ (see
these words). — (b) as governing prp. (a) with acc. in the
senses 6—11 above; cf. anv-aḍdhamāsaṁ, anu-cha-
māsaṁ, anu-jeṭṭhaṁ, anu-dhammaṁ, anu-pañcâhaṁ,
anu-pariveṇiyaṁ, anu-maggaṁ, anu-māsaṁ, anu-
rathaṁ, anu-rūpaṁ, anu-vattaṁ, anu-saṁvaccharaṁ;
also in the sense of saha, Pay fol. gau 2 (pabbatam anu-
tiṭṭhati = pabbatena saha); — (β)[with prec, abl.,
Mhv LXXVI 119, but read nu . . . nu, q. v.]; (γ) with
instr., see anu-maggena; (6) with loc, see anu-tīre,
anu-nadī-tīre, anu-pathe, anu-magge, anuvāte. —
(c) sometimes in Ctt. used to explain the neg. prefix
an-, see anu-acchariya, anu-abhāva, anu-amatagga,
anu-avaya. — (d) lengthened into ānu-, see (a ) an-
ānuyāyi(n), (β) ānu-pubba° (& °pubbī), ānu-bandhi
(s. v. anu-bandhati), ānu-bhāva, ānu-satthi. —
(e) repeated: anu anu . . . bhāveti vaḍḍhetī ti anu-
bhāvo, Sp-ṭ ad Sp I 6,11 (1*. e. more and more); also
in anu-anu-abhāva (see anu-abhāva), anu-anu-gijjhati,
anu-anu-nayana, anu-anu-passana, anu-anu-vyañjana
(see anu-vyañjana), anu-anu-seti. — (f) sometimes a
verb is repeated with anu-° (in the sense of 'again'),
e. g. Vin II 73,27 (pekkhati anu-pekkhati, dasseti
anu-dasseti), gajjati anugajjati; cf. also netā vinetā
anunetā (q.v.). — (g) frequently inserted in iterative
comp.s: kālânukāla, kīḷitânukīḷita, khuddânukhud-
daka, therânuthera, dhammânudhamma, padânu-
pada, pubbânupubba, poṅkhânupoṅkha, Buddhânu-
buddha, mūlânumūla, sākhânusākha, sissânusissa,
seṭṭhânuseṭṭhi(n).
