Apadāna

, n. [sa. Avadāna, cf. prec. 2 d], title of
the 13
th division of the Khuddaka-Nikāya, containing
Buddhâpadāna (Buddhâpadāniyo dhammapariyāyo;
p. 1-6), Paccekabuddhâpadāna (p. 7-14, 58 vv., whereof
8-49 = Sn 35-75), Therâpadāna (ṝ. e. Sāriputtâpadāna,
etc., in 547 (or 550) chapters including the Buddha's
Pubbakammapiloti p. 299-301 ≠ Av-klp ch. 50), and
Therī-apadāna (i. e. Sumedhâpadāna, etc., in 40
chapters
) tales in verse about the past karma of Bud-
dhist saints
(cf. apadāna above); Gv 57,4; Sv I 15,28;
17,12; Sp I 18,14; Pj I 12,9; Mhbv 94,28; a great deal of
these auto-biographies are given in extenso
