, ind. [ts.], prefix to nouns (subst., adj., adv.)
or prp. to verbs, before vowels generally taking the form
acc-, e. g. acc-uṇha, acc-odāta, sometimes with lengthe-
ning of the foll. vowel, e. g.
accāhita = ati-ahita, but
also
ati (or at'), e. g. ati-ambila, ati-iṭṭha, ati-ucca &
at'-ucca. —- 1. (a) prefixed to a subst, implying 'abun-
dance, excess, superiority, transgression, above';
— (b)
to an adj. or adv.
= too (much), very much, quite.
2. to verbs and their derivates = too much, very much;
over, through; by, away
(far away); beyond, too far;
also 'into'
(e. g. ati-neti, ati-harati). — 3. as govern-
ing prp. v.
ati-diṭṭhiyā (cf. adhi-° & abhi-°). -—
4. sometimes inserted (like adhi) in an iterative comp.,
implying 'cumulation', v.
cakkâticakka, chattâtic-
chatta, balâtibala, mañcâtimañca, mānâtimāna
