Aṭṭha-kathā

(cf. sa. arthavāda), i. e. commentary, esp. (a): the general
name for the oldest Ct.s on the
Pali Canon, said to
have been composed
(saṅgīta, Sv I 1,15*) at the first
Council, and to have been rehearsed
(anugīta, ib.) at
the 2d and 3d Council, brought to Ceylon by
Mahinda
(ib.), and done into old Sinhalese (Sīhaḷabhāsā), and
forming the chief authority of
Buddhaghosa and his
