lit. 'let be the rest what it may' [see Tr. note to Mil
133,17; thus cf. sa. āstām (tāvat) rather than astu]:
(a) in the canonical texts as a rule combined with
eva (yeva, va) = only, exclusively, absolutely (ex-
plained as
ekaṁsa-vacane nipāto, Sv I 111,24; =
ekaṁse, Abh 1140; Sadd (Ce) III 786,8), thus only
strengthening the sense of
'eva': DN I 91,17 (~ mamaṁ
