āvijjhati, āviñjati, āviñchati, āvijjati, āvic-
cati.

Behind the bewildering confusion of these spellings,
used more or less indiscriminately in Mss. and edd.,
can be discerned two different verbs with distinct
meanings, viz.
āvijjhati (pp. āviddha) = sa. āvidhyati
"to turn", and āviñjati or āviñchati (with noun
āviñjana or āviñchana) "to pull"; the confusion of
the two spellings is probably due to the extreme similarity
of
ñja and ñcha in sinh, script, and as the etymology
is not known
(unacceptable proposals Tr. Notes p. 59
n. 7, Toev. I 31) tt cannot be decided whether āviñjati
or āviñchati is the correct form of this second verb.
